JOB TITLE: Program Assistant (Market Monitoring)

Contract Type: National Fixed-Term Contract Grade: G6 UNIT/DIVISION: Research, Analysis and Monitoring (RAM) DUTY LOCATION (City, Country): Port-au-Prince, Haiti

DURATION: 12 months (renewable)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti , and reports directly to the National Officer (NOA) , under the overall authority of the International Officer VAM within the RAM unit.

JOB PURPOSE

Support the Country Office in Haiti in monitoring food markets, analyzing price trends, assessing the cost of the food basket, and producing factual analyses to inform program design and decision-making. The incumbent will contribute to market monitoring systems, support price monitoring within the framework of the Locally Produced School Feeding (HGSF) program, and participate in Minimum Expenditure Basket (MEB) and Essential Needs Assessment (ECMEN) analyses.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (non-exhaustive list, within the framework of delegated responsibilities)

Market monitoring

Conduct regular monitoring of food prices in the main markets in Haiti.
Monitor and analyze the cost of the Minimum Food Basket (MFB) and report on monthly variations.
Support the monitoring of prices related to Locally Produced School Feeding (HGSF) programs.
Contribute to the collection and analysis of data relating to microfinance financial institutions (MFIs).
Data collection and analysis

Collect, compile and validate market data from sub-offices and partners.
Contribute to the preparation of analytical reports, dashboards and presentations on market trends, the cost of food baskets and purchasing power.
Participate in the development of tools and methodologies for market monitoring and vulnerability analysis.
Support for MEB and ECMEN

Provide technical support for updating the Minimum Expenditure Basket (MEB) and the Essential Needs Analysis (ECMEN).
Collaborating with program teams and partners to ensure consistency and methodological rigor in calculations.
Support the documentation of assumptions, criteria and results to ensure transparency and accountability.
Capacity building and knowledge sharing

Support the organisation of training sessions for WFP staff, partners and government actors on market monitoring tools and methodologies.
Document lessons learned and best practices to improve market monitoring systems.
Other responsibilities

Perform any other related tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: High school diploma required. A university degree in economics, statistics, social sciences or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience: At least 6 years of progressive experience in market monitoring, food security analysis, or related fields. Experience in collecting, compiling, and analyzing market data is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Good knowledge of food markets and price monitoring methodologies.
Basic understanding of the concepts of food security and vulnerability.
Ability to compile, analyze and interpret quantitative data.
Strong skills in Excel, data visualization and report writing.
Knowledge of mobile data collection tools and GIS is an advantage.
LANGUAGES: Proficiency in English and French is required.
